2014 6th Grade Musical Snippet6th Grade Chorus and Musical.
Each year 6th grade teachers and students set time to write and perform an original staged musical. It is always based on concepts or curriculum found in the 6th grade classroom and for the past years have included presentations on Ancient Civilizations, Primitive Humans, Greek Myth, Native American Myth, Legends and Fables - and starting this past year in 2014 and continuing this year in 2015 we will finish an Epic Greek tale. WHAT happens when the story of the Odyssey merges with songs from Disney or the songs and stories from the Land of Oz"? You get two years of original 6th Grade Collaborative Musicals - "THE ODYSS(n)EY" and "THE O(z)DYSSEY." To begin, Chris wrote the intro to the story using two re-written Disney songs from the Disney films "Aladin" and "Hercules" to help tell the story of King Odysseus and his desire to return home to Ithaca after the Trojan War was won. In year one, each of the three 6th grade classes rewrote lyrics from three Disney songs and [provided script for these scenes to tell pivotal portions of three stories from the ODYSSEY - Maryann's Class - CYCLOPS - "BE OUR GUEST" from Beauty and the Beast Stephanie's Class - CIRCE - "BE PREPARED" from The Lion King Martha's Class - LAND OF THE DEAD - "I HAVE A DREAM" from Tangled Once Lyrics and Script writing were for complete for each scene, then followed rehearsals, blocking, part choice and performances of the show. The "ODYSS(n)NEY was performed on Jan 16 2014 at 7 pm for Families and Jan 17 at All School Meeting for Merriam School. The show was a smash hit! Now here we are on July 1 2014. This years incoming 6th grade classes - who viewed the first half of the Odyssey Story in 5th grade - will finish the Odyssey and the Travels of Odie when they start this fall to write the conclusion of the Epic Tale with the next twist... Join us in January of 2015 as we merge the Odyssey with "The Wizard of Oz"! Here we see Odie as he strives to return to Ithaca. Will he finally arrive to discover "There's no place like home."? 2013 6th Grade Musical Snippet
(From the script "SURVIVOR: PROGENITOR", Grade 6 Musical 2013)
Picture yourself living on the savannah
The plants and the trees give you ease in the day
Bi-pedally strolling and uprightly standing
The branches don't get in your way
Stretching again up on tip toes you reach
The berries so red in the day
Frugivorous chewing on fruit is just how you become
Lucy reaching high for berries
Lucy reaching high for berries ( muffled)
Lucy reaching high for berries (severely muffled)
AHHHHHHH!
