4th Grade Chorus is our first entrance into performance where we actively prepare to provide a concert experience. While finding songs to reinforce 4th grade curriculum and classroom concepts, we begin to rehearse in these areas:
CONSTANT flow of tone
SING the words like their meaning
BE impatient with your diction
FIND focus and point in your sound
In 5th grade, we continue to work those same singing concepts. We find songs to address 5th grade curriculum and classroom concepts while we address and work detailed levels of the Choral Performance Pyramid:
TOP LEVEL - CONCERT!
SIXTH LEVEL - Facial Expression and Movement
FIFTH LEVEL - Dynamics and Accents
FOURTH LEVEL - Phrasing and Diction
THIRD LEVEL - Vocal Technique, Support, Intonation, Vocal Space
SECOND LEVEL - Entrances, Cut-Offs, Tempo
FOUNDATION LEVEL - Pitches, Rhythms, Words and Scansion.
We bring it all together in 6th grade during work on the yearly musical!
