In Third grade we reinforce reading skills initially in order to apply them to a new instrument, the Recorder! Midway through the year each student receives a personal recorder to work music in class. In amidst these sessions, we continue our skill building in other areas that might include:
SINGING - Welcome; SInging All Together 3 parts of the 5 part song in All School Meeting; Sing to Life 3 part round in class; Using both "chest" and "high" voice, Singing to express the Story or idea of the song; Hand signs DO, RE, MI, SO; Be the LEAD singer during the Musicians Pledge Improvisation each class; PLAYING - Steady Beat Patschen while singing; Rhythm pattern Patschen while singing; 2 part ensembles of Class Ostinato and Improvised Solo; Repeat rhythm patterns back to the leader; Recorder will be introduced to being playing and reading skills on another instrument. MOVING - Learning and performing Sequential Pattern using upper body choreography with the CUPS song; MUSIC READING - RHYTHM PATTERNS in Quarter, Eighth Note Pairs, Sixteenth Pairs with Eighth Note, and Sixteenth Note Quads - SHORT, SHORTER, SHORT-SHORTER and SUPER-SHORTER; PITCH PATTERNS - Treble Clef with Recorder; SOUND HOUND; Recorder will be introduced to begin playing and reading skills in single octave range LISTENING - Play along with Professional Recordings Simplified Student Compositions; Identify and play rhythmic patterns in A and B sections or phrases CREATING - Improvise lyrics to specific lengths of phrase in WELCOME Song; Accompany song with body sound patterns; IMPROVISING new melodies on C Pentatonic Octave scale to words of the Musicians Pledge. |
